The Nebraska Commission on Public Advocacy (Commission), an agency of the State of Nebraska, is seeking candidates for the position of Chief Counsel. Such candidates shall have been licensed to practice law in the State of Nebraska for at least five years prior to the effective date of the appointment and shall be experienced in the practice of criminal defense, including the defense of capital cases. Other desirable qualifications include experience in the business affairs and management of a law firm or public agency and working with legislative bodies. Chief Counsel’s responsibilities and duties include overall supervision of the various divisions of the Commission, as well as serving as counsel in cases at the trial level and on appeal. Chief Counsel serves at the pleasure of the members of the Commission, which set the Chief Counsel’s salary. Salary is commensurate with experience and is expected to be a minimum of $150,000 with outstanding health care, retirement, and other benefits. Starting date is flexible but is expected to be between August and October of 2023.
