This position will work closely with agency personnel to provide legal advice and research related to compliance. This will include keeping up to date with pertinent state and federal laws; conducting legal research on complex areas of law involving regulations, legislation, privacy, HIPAA, compliance, and ethics; conducting risk assessments; developing and overseeing training for agency personnel related to compliance; reviewing contracts, business associate agreements, and data use agreements for privacy and compliance issues; assisting with internal compliance reviews and monitoring activities; regulation drafting and promulgation; and providing legal interpretation and guidance to agency personnel on pending legislation.
Three years of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing and trying cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies. Incumbents must be admitted to the Nebraska Bar.
Ability to: interpret and apply statutes, case law, decisions of court/administrative hearings, and administrative rules and policies on a variety of legal issues; effectively communicate and interact with legal associates, other government employees, and the public; conduct legal research; formulate legal opinions and recommendations based on legal research; identify critical elements of legal questions or issues; and use a computer for word processing and research.
